During the middle sixties, a group of young musicians well trained set the pace in developing and shaping what was to be the legendary Porteña Jazz Band, showing their charism wherever they performed the New Orleans style, radio broadcast, TV, and Jazz festivals in Buenos Aires.


It must be noticed that their special treatment of the Jazz repertoire enhanced with was to become a “certain latin-american temperament” increased the band’s acceptance all over the country, as well as their first discographical recordings.

With the addition of new members, Porteña Jazz Band finds a great path cultivating the style of the prominent big bands of the thirties, like Duke Ellington, Fletcher Henderson, Mac Kinney Cotton Pickers…

With this new outfit already integrated, the band acquires not only local prestige, but also is required to perform abroad starting tours in Brazil, Chile, Jamaica, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Uruguay.

In 1975, Porteña Jazz Band starts the first european tours enjoin great success attending Jazz festivals in Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Wales, Holland and Switzerland, attaining distinctions and awards.

The following years, the band performed in 40 international festivals, among them Burgdorf, Musikerkeller Festival, Jazz Meeting Gentbrugge, Oude Stijl Jazz Festival Breda, Hannover Jazz Festival, Hamburg Festival, Marciac Festival, Festival De Bayonne, etc.

Porteña Jazz Band also shared stages with prominent Jazz personalities like Bud Freeman, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Winton, Marsalis, Phil Woods, Gerry Mulligan, Chick Corea, Michel Petrucciani, Arturo Sandoval, etc.

In July 2005, “La Porteña Jazz Band” will celebrate its 40th Anniversary in the field of Jazz act.
